What this looks like in practice

Individual therapy at The Kind Mind Collective is built around one idea: that therapy should work with your actual life, not a textbook version of it.

That means sessions are shaped around what's happening for you right now, while also making space to understand the patterns and history that got you here. It's practical when you need strategies. It's reflective when you need to slow down and make sense of things. And it's always grounded in the understanding that your mental health doesn't exist in a vacuum. Your environment, your relationships, your identity, the systems you're dealing with: all of it matters.

Sessions run for 50 minutes via secure video call. You can be anywhere in Australia, in whatever space feels comfortable and private for you.

What people come in with

There's no single "type" of person who uses this service. But there are common threads. People come to therapy here when they're dealing with:

The therapeutic approach

The Kind Mind Collective draws on several evidence-based frameworks, adapted to the person in front of me rather than applied by rote. These include:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour, and for building practical strategies that shift patterns that aren't serving you.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for learning to be with difficult emotions without being controlled by them, and for getting clearer on what actually matters to you.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and working through intensity without shutting down or blowing up.

Trauma-informed practice that recognises the impact of past experiences on the nervous system, relationships, and daily life, and that moves at a pace that feels safe.

But the real backbone of the work is a social work lens. That means we're always looking at you in context. Not just your symptoms, but your situation. Your relationships, your systems, your environment, your supports, your barriers. Housing, work, family, money, discrimination, access to services: these are all part of the picture, and pretending they're not doesn't help anyone.

Neurodivergent-affirming therapy

If you're autistic, ADHD, AuDHD, or otherwise neurodivergent, you won't need to mask here or justify how your brain works. Therapy is adapted to your processing style, your sensory needs, and your communication preferences. That might mean more structure, less ambiguity, written session summaries, cameras off when it helps, or a different pace. The goal is never to make you "more normal." It's to build a life that works for the brain you've actually got. More about what this means in practice.

You don't need a formal diagnosis. If you're self-identifying, exploring, or late-identified, that's completely valid and welcome here.

LGBTIQA+ affirming therapy

Your identity is not up for debate and it's not a clinical curiosity. The Kind Mind Collective is openly affirming of all gender identities, sexual orientations, and relationship structures. If identity-related stress is part of what you're carrying, we can work with that. If it's not the focus, it doesn't need to be. Either way, you won't have to educate your therapist about your own life.

How sessions are funded

Individual therapy is available through Medicare (with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, which gives you access to a rebate with a gap payment), or through private pay at full fee. If you're an NDIS participant looking for capacity building and therapeutic support, there's a dedicated service stream for that.

Transparent fee information is available on request. If cost is a barrier, get in touch and we can talk through your options.

This might not be the right fit if...

It's worth being upfront about scope. This practice is not a crisis service. If you're in immediate danger, call 000 or contact Lifeline on 13 11 14. This practice also doesn't provide assessments or diagnoses, couples therapy, or therapy for children or adolescents.

If you're unsure whether this is the right fit, reach out and ask. There's no obligation and no hard sell. Sometimes a quick conversation is all it takes to work out whether this is the right space for you.
